Unity: The Place of Commanded Blessing

There is something about unity that is extremely important to God. In Acts 2:1, the fire (revival!) of the Holy Ghost fell when they were “all together in one place” – on one accord. Amos 3:3 poignantly asks the question “how can two walk together except they be agreed?” In other words, there can be no progression and no power unless there is agreement, unless there is solidarity and oneness – unity. God makes it apparent and blatantly clear how important unity is to Him and how important it is to anything that seeks to embody His character. Unity must abound.

Think about the human body. What a deformity we would be if each organ, every intricate cell and dna strain did not perform according to its nature? Let’s think about the sicknesses and diseases that occur in the body when organs don’t work like they’re supposed to or when cells are out of alignment and not performing the necessary function or to the capacity they were supposed to perform? This causes other organs to overwork and perform in a different capacity or causes other organs to perform functions they weren’t meant to perform – thus overworking those organs and cells. How long can the human body sustain if its organs are not functioning in true harmony? Though our God has a sense of humor, His purpose for unity is divinely warranted. In His sovereign wisdom and authority, He knows exactly what He is doing.

Psalms 133:3 (New Living Translation): Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the LORD has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.

In the words of the Psalmist David, we see that harmony is a place of of refreshing. It is here that the Lord pronounces blessings, sends His power, reveals truth and allows revelation. This place is where progression and increase occurs. God in His infinite wisdom designed a spiritual oasis whereby the believer can advance. He even lets us know that to corporately experience “Heaven on earth,” there must be a uniting of earth with Heaven (on earth as it is in Heaven – Matthew 6:10), there must be an agreement between me (earth) and the will of God for my life (Heaven). This is a topic for another day; however, if consistent and systematic revival is going to occur, this place of unity and harmony should be a spiritual goal for all believers.

How can we achieve unity?

It’s not overnight. Especially since our adversary is prowling about “like” a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). Like is in quotes and highlighted in the previous sentence in order to point out the fact that he attempts to “look” like the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Point blank, he’s a counterfeit – a “putty-tat” compared to our Lord and is no match for the believer who knows his identity and inheritance in Christ. The enemy knows that he is no match for a united front of believers and it is why he hates it. In Proverbs 6, God considers he who sows discord among the brothers (the accuser) an abomination. Discord is a strong enemy to unity.

With unity being a goal for all believers and if we are all striving to be like Christ, with the understanding that unity is pleasing to God and power for believers, it should cause us to constantly create spaces, environments, cultures and opportunities where unity can flow. If we are going to contribute to this move of revival, we must be intentional about creating unity and giving no place to discord.

  • Heart check – Believers have a consistent obligation to check our hearts – daily. God desires truth in the inward parts and as believers, our hearts should be pliable to the Holy Spirit at all times. Are you carrying offense? Are you angry at someone? Should you have apologized to someone YOU offended? Did you say “thank you” to the attendant? Are you still angry a something a relative or someone did to you years ago? Is there someone you need to forgive? Allow God full access to your heart so He can bring those things to your attention you need to address. Then address them. Acknowledge that those things are there, offer them to the Lord and let the work ensue. Remember, He already knows what's there.

  • Prayer – It’s impossible to keep a heart that’s on the altar without a life of prayer. Prayer is important for the life of the believer. Sure, there are many levels, types, administrations of prayer, but this is in reference to the most intimate – devotion. A place where it’s just you and God. You’re not praying for anyone else, thinking about anyone else, you’re not asking for anything, but just connecting to Abba. How’s your prayer life? When do you connect with God? Life can get so busy during the hustle and bustle of it, but imagine how your spouse would feel if you never intentionally made time to connect with them? Right, that's the same with our God. This is what we were created for. Get back in union with Abba. If you're already there, take it to the next level of intimacy. Allow Him to show you what that is for "your" relationship and follow suit. He wants to take you to the next level.

  • God’s Word – God’s Word is life and it is life-giving. That means it’s living, breathing, healing, delivering and ACTIVE. It holds us accountable and it gives us a standard by which to compare ourselves. It’s the perfect law of liberty. Allowing God’s Word to come alive in our lives and embody what what it says we should. Being intentional about living our lives according to the Word of God and allowing our lives to be judge by it. Allowing ourselves to be conformed to the image of Christ through the Word of God.

Sure, this is fundamental teaching and principles that should be basic to all believers. But in a time of revival, revisiting foundational truths are imperative to this type of end-time move. It assures us that we are walking in harmony with the basic “asks” of God so that we can walk in unity with others.

God knows what He is doing. Revivalists ARISE…
